Life will never be exactly the same after a loss. Every day there will be reminders that your loved one is no longer with you. Early days may feel chaotic and overwhelming, but over time, grief evolves. Be kind and patient with yourself as your needs and perspectives change. Here are some considerations to help you cope:

Take care of yourself

Care for yourself in a gentle and nourishing way. Start small—eat, shower, rest. Over time, make conscious choices that protect and preserve your wellbeing.

Know you are not alone

You may feel isolated, but others have experienced similar losses. Seek out supportive friends, family, or local networks. Connection, even if small, can help.

Find ways to remember your loved one

Honor your loved one in meaningful ways: create keepsakes, visit meaningful places, or engage in activities they loved. Nature and rituals can also provide comfort and remembrance.

Reemerge at your own pace

Social settings, work, or public events may feel overwhelming. Go at your own pace and reengage with the world gradually, respecting your emotional limits.

Navigate society and find support

Ask for help, seek resources, therapy, or support groups. Local and online support networks can provide guidance and connection during your grief journey.

Connect with others when ready

Engage with friends, family, or community support when you feel ready. Meaningful connections help diminish grief’s toll.

Share your story

Share your experiences with trusted friends, family, or supportive communities. Writing, talking, or storytelling can aid healing and connection.

Expect reminders

Certain moments—songs, smells, or places—can trigger memories. Prepare for these and give yourself permission to feel without judgment.

Life changes

Life will continue to evolve. Be patient with yourself as you adapt to new routines, traditions, and memories while honoring your loved one.

Remember: grief is a personal journey. Be kind, patient, and compassionate with yourself as you navigate this path.
